Again a long day and i arrive late at the hut. And it is also the first all day dry feet day!!
But let’s start at the beginning!
I wake up to an incredible strong burning sun which ahines on a bright blue sky today!
It is really hot and because I am ascending to the norwegian hills and finish mountains today It is chalanging to keep up good pace!
The views get more and more pretty and the path turns into a mountain hiking path!
Quite a few rivers have to be crossed but since the water levels are low some acrobatic jumping allows me to cross them without getting wet feet.
Thats what i came for!
The day involves a steep ascend but then the trail stays on almost the same height (+/- 150m altitude).
Shortly before I cross the boarder to Finland I have a last rest in the last norwegian hut:Somashytta.
Then comes the boarder:
Then in Finland the marking changes from red to yellow, which is a lot harder to see.
The Phitsujarvi hut on the foot of Halti, the highest point of Finland, and next to the same named lake is a free hut. Most Finish huts are for free and offer free gas stoves!
In the hut I meet a German guy who I allready “knew” from the hut books and a sick finish women. Since I do not want to catch a cold I decide to pitch up my tent outside and not to sleep in the hut.
Outside I meet the guys, who I met on the bus to Kautokaino! They are swedish (not norwegian as i remembered) and also stay in their massive Hilleberger tent.
They want to know how it is possible that i catched up with them so quickly and we exchange some storys until late in the night while drinking one of the 4 bottles of wine they brought with them.
The German guy want to follow the E1 back to germany, but he does not seem to have done much planning and carries a 28kg pack… He will probably have to change strategy if he wants to make it!
